Feedback for our inappropriate behaviour and banter video

This week we received feedback on our inappropriate behaviour and banter video.  Delegates watched the video as part of a management development programme.

You can view it on our YouTube channel

I’m delighted with the feedback they gave us, because it demonstrates that a video resource can bring these difficult issues to life. As with all our video resources it’s based on a real case. And importantly, the use of the video supported learning and that’s the whole point of using these resources, either as part of a larger course or as stand-along-resources.

The Story

In the video we meet newly promoted manager Susie, her long time colleague and friend Brenda, and a new graduate trainee called Simon. We join Susie and Simon when they meet for his 6-month review.  In this meeting Simon discloses that Brenda has made inappropriate sexual jokes and comments to him and humiliated him in front of the team, so there are some significant red flags.

Susie feels conflicted between doing the right thing by Simon and her loyalty to Brenda as a friend.  And this always sparks lots of debate amongst viewers. Can and should you leave friendships at the door when you move into a management role?

Meanwhile, Simon just wants the bullying to stop.

Susie tackles Brenda over how she has treated Simon and then the whole situation escalates and end up with Simon going off sick.

And this is exactly what happens in workplaces when these difficult situations are not handled well.

The Feedback

“I thought the video set the scene well and allowed you to consider the impact of the way the manager delivered the message, the consequences it had for ‘Simon’ and the seriousness of the situation.”

“I really enjoyed the video, it helped me understand the theory, and what we should do and not do, was good to see it in action”

“Having a good visual is a great way of learning”

And this from their course designer and facilitator:

“We used the Resound Training video on inappropriate behaviour and banter and it really brought the session to life. Delegates enjoyed the scenario and also evaluating the different approaches to handling it. Thanks for sharing it with us”. Judy Clark, British Transport Police, Leadership Academy.
